GO Fishing Tri-Cities: Connecting Our Community to the Water

WebPro is a Richland-based marketing, software, and web design firm on a mission to strengthen our community by connecting more people with the incredible fishing opportunities at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima Rivers.

Why WebPro? Why Fishing? Why Now?

Our founders, Zack and Brennan, aren't just business partners—they're childhood best friends who grew up fishing the Yakima River with their dads. Those early morning trips shaped who they are today, teaching lessons about patience, persistence, and the value of unplugging from technology to connect with nature and each other.

Now, as fathers to young children and successful business owners, they see a troubling disconnect: while the Tri-Cities sits at the junction of three major rivers teeming with salmon, steelhead, bass, and walleye, most residents—especially in underserved communities—have never experienced the joy of fishing. The barriers aren't the fish or the water access; they're knowledge, confidence, and connection.

That's where GO Fishing Tri-Cities comes in.

Our Project: Your Pocket Guide to Local Fishing

For the past four years, WebPro has helped businesses thrive through innovative marketing and technology solutions. Now, we're applying that same expertise to a cause close to our hearts: making fishing accessible to everyone in the Tri-Cities, regardless of background, income, or experience level.

The centerpiece of our initiative is the GO Fishing app—a free, bilingual mobile application that puts everything you need to start fishing right in your pocket:

The GO Fishing App Features:

  • Interactive Spot Finder with GPS navigation to 50+ local fishing locations
  • Real-Time Conditions showing weather, water temps, and what's biting now
  • Species ID Scanner using your phone's camera to identify catches
  • Beginner Tutorials with offline-accessible videos in English and Spanish
  • Regulation Checker ensuring you're always fishing legally
  • Community Features connecting new anglers with experienced mentors
  • Family Challenges gamifying the experience for kids
  • Event Calendar highlighting free fishing days, derbies, and workshops

But we're not stopping at the app. Our comprehensive campaign includes:

  • Targeted Social Media reaching diverse communities where they already engage
  • Partner Websites providing in-depth resources and downloadable guides
  • Community Workshops bringing digital learning into real-world practice
  • Influencer Partnerships with local fishing enthusiasts sharing their knowledge

More Than an App: A Community Movement

WebPro isn't just another tech company building another app—we're invested community members who understand that technology should serve a greater purpose. Our team of four brings together expertise in:

  • Mobile App Development creating intuitive tools that work for all ages
  • Digital Marketing that reaches diverse audiences authentically
  • User Experience Design making complex information simple and actionable
  • Community Building that turns app downloads into lasting outdoor connections

The GO Fishing app isn't meant to keep people on their phones—it's designed to get them off their screens and onto the water. Every feature is built with one goal: making that first fishing trip less intimidating and more successful.

Focusing on What Matters: Equity and Access

The Tri-Cities has changed dramatically in recent decades, becoming increasingly diverse and urbanized. Yet fishing participation hasn't kept pace with these demographic shifts. Through GO Fishing Tri-Cities, we're specifically targeting:

  • Youth from low-income families who lack transportation to fishing spots
  • Hispanic/Latino families who make up nearly half our population but are underrepresented in outdoor recreation
  • Urban residents who live minutes from water but feel disconnected from it
  • Parents and grandparents looking for affordable, meaningful activities to share with kids

The GO Fishing app addresses these challenges directly:

  • Bilingual by default with full Spanish language support
  • Works offline so data limits aren't a barrier
  • Shows bus-accessible spots for families without cars
  • Includes free/low-cost gear resources removing financial barriers
  • Features family-friendly locations with amenities parents need

Technology Serving Tradition

As a tech company, we believe in the power of digital tools. But we also know that the best apps in the world can't replace the feeling of a fish on the line or the pride of teaching someone else to cast. The GO Fishing app serves one purpose: getting people outdoors, together, creating real memories.

Here's how we're ensuring technology enhances rather than replaces the outdoor experience:

  • Quick Reference Design: Information is accessible in seconds, then the phone goes away
  • Offline Mode: Download content at home, access it at the water without service
  • Mentor Matching: Connecting experienced anglers with newcomers for in-person learning
  • Achievement System: Rewards real-world activities, not screen time
  • Family Mode: Features designed to bring multiple generations together

Measuring Success Through Real Impact

We're not interested in vanity metrics like app downloads alone. Success for GO Fishing Tri-Cities means:

  • 5,000+ active app users in Year 1, with 60% from underserved communities
  • 500+ families trying fishing for the first time through our program
  • 30% increase in youth fishing participation in target neighborhoods
  • 100+ mentor matches connecting experienced and new anglers
  • 20+ community events facilitated through the app
  • Measurable increase in fishing license sales among app users

But beyond the numbers, success looks like kids teaching their parents to use the app to find fishing spots, teenagers organizing fishing trips through the community features, and families from all backgrounds gathering at the rivers that define our region.

Our Commitment to the Tri-Cities

This project represents WebPro's commitment to ensuring that the outdoor heritage that shaped our founders remains available to all. We're not just building an app or running ads—we're investing in our community's future, one fishing trip at a time.

With support from the US Fish and Wildlife Service's R3 program, we're ready to prove that innovative technology and traditional outdoor activities aren't opposites—they're partners in building stronger, more connected communities.

Join the Movement

Whether you're an experienced angler wanting to mentor others, a parent looking for meaningful family activities, or someone who's always been curious about fishing but didn't know where to start, GO Fishing Tri-Cities is for you.
